Supporting standards compliance and accelerating technology deployment with open-source software – a government perspective
A robust and interoperable charging network is key to increasing electric vehicle (EV) adoption, and by extension, to achieving the transportation decarbonization goals of the United States. To ensure reliability and interoperability in software, the U.S. Government has, in the Code of Federal Regulations, section 680, established minimum standards for the charging software stack. The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation (JOET), through the Applied Interoperability (AI) project, is partnering with stakeholders to create an open-source reference implementation that meets these federal minimum requirements. The reference implementation can provide a focal point to work together to implement complex standards consistently. It can also provide a mechanism to disseminate innovative power management monitoring and control techniques into production and increase vehicle to grid integration. This session will outline JOET and AI goals, highlight how they can be achieved using an open-source reference implementation, and issue a call to action to join the broader community around open source software for EV charging.

Joint Office of Energy & Transportation Applied Interoperability Project
This session will explore how the US Joint Office of Energy & Transportation's Applied Interoperability Project will ensure:
  • Any PEV owner can safely plug in anytime and anywhere and be dispatch-able as a 'certified resource’
  • That helps electric system operators maintain reliable service while achieving our State RPS and GHG reduction goals
  • Seamlessly without confusing the consumer
  • Or impacting their transportation needs
  • In a way that lowers their total cost of ownership
  • Any actor can contract and settle with any other

Hardware Design Considerations for EV Charging
As the electric vehicle (EV) industry continues to surge forward, the demand for efficient, reliable, and robust infrastructure is becoming increasingly more important. Off-the-shelf EV Charging solutions aren’t always enough and a custom solution is required.

This session highlights how a PHYTEC phyCORE-AM62x SOM can be leveraged to accelerate a custom EVSE hardware solution. Topics covered include typical design considerations, component selection, digital and analog circuits, Linux OS and real-time interface selections, and thermal management. Central to this discussion is Design for Software (DfS) principles, which will allow for seamless integration of Pionix EVerest and Basecamp. By minimizing the impact of software you can reduce your overall software development expenses for bring up and maintenance.

Join us and bring your questions for a Q&A.
